FilCom in Shanghai holds "Kapihan sa Hapon" event to boost entrepreneurship among the Filipino Community and investment in the Philippines
SHANGHAI, 22 March 2025 – Filipino community members and business people from around Shanghai and neighboring provinces interested in generating more income and exploring business opportunities in the Philippines converged at the Kapihan sa Hapon, Talk and Mixer event held at the posh Xuhui District of Shanghai.
Organized by the Filipino Community Shanghai (FilComSha) and Philippine Chamber of Business & Professionals Shanghai (PhilChamSH), with the support of the Philippine Consulate General, together with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC-Shanghai) and Philippine Department of Tourism Office (PDOT-Shanghai), the event featured guest presenters Commercial Consul Jose Ma. S. Dinsay and Tourism Attaché Ireneo H. Reyes who gave talks on Philippine Government programs in support of MSMEs, how to start a business in the Philippines and business opportunities in the Philippine tourism industry.
FilComSha President Ms. Michelle Teope-Shen and PhilChamSH President Mr. Joe Santiago welcomed the attendees and thanked the guest presenters for taking the time to share their knowledge and expertise with the Filipino Community and other stakeholders.
2025 is an important year as it marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China. It is hoped that this events and other events organized by the Philippine Consulate General and Filipino Community will serve as a springboard towards greater cooperation between the two countries and another 50 years of prosperity and dynamic relations. Shanghai PCG shares Beijing PE's advisory on China laws on public gatherings
China has laws on public gatherings, as embodied in its Constitution as well as its Law on Assemblies, Processions, and Demonstrations. In particular, Article 8 of the Law states:
“Processions and Demonstrations. There must be a person or persons responsible for the holding of an assembly, a procession or a demonstration. For the holding of an assembly, a procession or a demonstration for which an application has to be made under this Law, the responsible person(s) must submit an application in writing to the competent authorities five days prior to the date of the activity. The application shall specify the purposes of theassembly, procession or demonstration, how it is going to beconducted, the posters and slogans to be used, the number ofparticipants, the number of vehicles, the specifications andquantities of the sound facilities to be used, the starting andfinishing time, the places (including places where the participantsassemble and disperse, the route, and the name(s), occupation(s)and address(es)of the person(s)responsible for the assemblyprocession or demonstration."
B2B networking and dinner reception puts Philippine diving center stage at diving expo
SHANGHAI, 21 March 2025 –Philippine diving industry representatives and Chinese diving enthusiasts gathered at the B2B networking and dinner reception organized by the Philippine Department of Tourism Shanghai-Office (PDOT-Shanghai) on 21 March 2025 at the sidelines of the Shanghai leg of the Diving & Resort Travel (DRT) Expo, creating connections and momentum towards the promotion of the Philippine diving industry.
The B2B event was graced by Mr. Jason Chong, President of LX Development Group and organizer of the DRT Expo, Mr. Thomas Kan, PADI-accredited instructor and Territory Director for Greater China and Ms. Grace Tao, Chief Editor of Witrip Media which publishes the travel and tourism magazine Fun World.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous Chinese dinner and the mood was lively and upbeat. Several dive resort packages and round-trip tickets were up for grabs as prizes with PDOT-Shanghai using for the first time online gaming apps to determine the winners, making the event more exciting and participation based, unlike the usual random raffles draws.
The B2B networking and reception dinner remains a featured event of PDOT-Shanghai during the DRT Expo, which is considered Asia’s premier diving industry expo and is a prime venue for promoting diving in the Philippines with this year’s dedicated Philippine booth featuring 16 premier Philippine diving resorts and diving camps offering travel and dive packages and opening the door to experiencing the numerous excellent diving spots around the Philippine archipelago. Lens-based Filipina artist Wawi Navarroza showcases her photographs in Shanghai
SHANGHAI, 13 March 2025 – Filipina photographer-artist Ms. Wawi Navarroza visited Shanghai in support of her exhibit of photographic artwork at the Fotografiska Contemporary Museum of Photography, Art and Culture, Shanghai.
Entitled “Wild at Heart”, the photo exhibit features photographs from Ms. Navarroza’s most recent collection of work. Most of the art pieces on display at Fotografiska are self-portraiture with the artist herself the key figure in the portraits, incorporating playful and colorful intermingling of fabrics, tropical plants and fruits and objects closely associated with Philippine culture like the balikbayan box and pearl necklaces (Pearl of the Orient).
Ms. Navarroza’s colorful self-portrait artwork reflects her female identity and her life experiences as a female Filipino artist and expatriate, having lived in Madrid and Istanbul during her journey as a photograph artist. Her artwork’s depth lies in the complexity of the use of color, fabrics and numerous everyday objects arranged in abundance, compelling the viewer to transfix themselves in appreciating the entirety of the photograph while dissecting the numerous details.
Her art exhibit will remain at Fotografiska until July 2025.
