Lens-based Filipina artist Wawi Navarroza showcases her photographs in Shanghai
SHANGHAI, 13 March 2025 – Filipina photographer-artist Ms. Wawi Navarroza visited Shanghai in support of her exhibit of photographic artwork at the Fotografiska Contemporary Museum of Photography, Art and Culture, Shanghai.
Entitled “Wild at Heart”, the photo exhibit features photographs from Ms. Navarroza’s most recent collection of work. Most of the art pieces on display at Fotografiska are self-portraiture with the artist herself the key figure in the portraits, incorporating playful and colorful intermingling of fabrics, tropical plants and fruits and objects closely associated with Philippine culture like the balikbayan box and pearl necklaces (Pearl of the Orient).
Ms. Navarroza’s colorful self-portrait artwork reflects her female identity and her life experiences as a female Filipino artist and expatriate, having lived in Madrid and Istanbul during her journey as a photograph artist. Her artwork’s depth lies in the complexity of the use of color, fabrics and numerous everyday objects arranged in abundance, compelling the viewer to transfix themselves in appreciating the entirety of the photograph while dissecting the numerous details.
Her art exhibit will remain at Fotografiska until July 2025.

PCG celebrates the 2025 National Women's Month
The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai joins the Filipino nation in celebrating the 2025 National Women’s Month this March.
This year’s National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) with the sub-theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”, reinforces the core objective of RA 9710, or the Magna Carta of Women—to empower women, promote gender equality, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities.
The 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration further emphasizes the need for inclusive progress, ensuring that no woman is left behind in the journey toward equal opportunities and empowerment. In addition, the 2025 NWMC aims to:
1. Increase awareness and advocacy for gender equality, resulting in greater recognition of women’s equal rights, power, and opportunities across all sectors;
2. Enhance the inclusion of marginalized and vulnerable sectors of women, including indigenous women, rural women, and women with disabilities, through targeted initiatives that ensure their participation and access to programs and resources promoting inclusive development;
3. Strengthen multi-sectoral collaboration with government agencies, LGUs, NGOs, CSOs, and other stakeholders, leading to improved policies, access to services, and sustainable opportunities for women; and
4. Improve policies and gender-responsive governance, ensuring the sustainability of gender equality efforts beyond 2025.
