MANAMo 2024: Shanghai PCG shines light on Philippines’ Maritime Entitlements and the Significance of the 2016 Arbitral Award
SHANGHAI –The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai observed the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo) 2024 with a briefing on understanding the West Philippine Sea and the 2016 Arbitral Award for its personnel on 27 September 2024.
MANAMo 2024 carries the theme “Pamana ng Karagatan: Para sa Kinabukasan, Ating Ingatan” (The Oceans’ Wealth: an Inheritance Worth Securing for the Future of the Filipino People).
Consul John Francis S. Herrera conducted the briefing and provided an overview on maritime issues in the South China Sea and the significance of the 2016 Arbitral Award.
In his remarks, Consul General Dinno M. Oblena noted the importance of enhancing knowledge and understanding of the archipelagic nature of the Philippines and of having a deep appreciation of the 2016 Arbitral Award and its significance in international jurisprudence. END
Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai to open on Saturday, 28 September 2024, for Overseas Voting Registration
The Filipino Community in Shanghai and the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hubei and Anhui are advised that the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai will be open this Saturday, 28 September 2024, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to conduct overseas voting registration for the 2025 National Elections.
Overseas Filipinos in these areas who are eligible to vote in 2025 but have not yet registered are encouraged to do so. The last day of overseas voting registration is on 30 September 2024.

The Board of Foreign Service Examinations (BFSE) of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announces the conduct of the 2025 Foreign Service Officer (FSO) Examinations to recruit candidates for appointment to the position of Foreign Service Officer, Class IV.
For details on the duties of a Foreign Service Officer, the qualifications and requirements, and the procedure for submission of applications, visit the DFA-BFSE website at https://dfa.gov.ph/fsoexams.
The deadline for the submission of completed application forms is on 30 October 2024 at 4:00 pm (local time). The Qualifying Test stage of the FSO Examinations is scheduled on 26 January 2025 at testing centers in the Philippines.
Philippine Consulate General encourages closer cooperation between Philippine and Chinese entrepreneurs
Shanghai – At a gathering in Shanghai on 18 September 2024 hosted by Liwayway (China) Co. Ltd. for the visiting delegation from the Anvil Business Club from the Philippines and representatives from the Shanghai Entrepreneurs Association, Philippine Consul General to Shanghai Dinno M. Oblena encouraged the business organizations to identify areas of convergence where the private sectors of the Philippines and China can continue to cooperate in the economic field.
Consul General Oblena highlighted the close economic ties between the Philippines and China as well as the complementarity in the economies of the two countries. He also underscored some of the Philippines’ significant advantages and opportunities to offer for companies wishing to expand their operations overseas, such as its solid macroeconomic foundation, growing population with favorable demographics, presence of highly-educated, skilled, and innovative professionals, legislation that enhances the business environment, and access to markets in the region and other areas globally.
The delegation from the Anvil Business Club, one of the significant organizations of young Filipino-Chinese businessmen and professionals, was comprised of 48 of its members. Apart from the Shanghai Entrepreneurs Association, members of the Philippine Chamber of Business and Professionals were likewise present. END
