SHANGHAI, 16 May 2025 – In pursuit of its GAD and Wellness objectives, the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai hosted a lecture by eminent Chinese cardiologists Dr. Jiang Weifeng on “Arrhythmias and Health” on 16 May 2025. Dr. Jiang is a doctor of the Department of Cardiology of the prestigious Jiao Tong University affiliated Shanghai Chest Hospital.
Dr. Jiang provided an overview of arrhythmias, their underlying physiology, types, causes, prevalence and treatment. Arrythmias pertain to irregular or erratic heartbeats which, if left untreated, could become life-threatening and have been linked to higher chances of stroke and heart failure among adults. Dr. Jiang warned that telltale symptoms of arrythmia should never be ignored and medical evaluation should be sought immediately. Prevention through healthy lifestyle changes involving diet and exercise is the best route to take.
Opening the event, Acting Head of Post Consul John Francis S. Herrera underscored the importance of paying attention to our bodies and getting regular medical check-ups so that medical conditions like arrhythmias can be detected early.
At the event’s conclusion, Consul Herrera thanked Dr. Jiang for sharing his expertise and knowledge about arrythmias and presented him a certificate of appreciation together with a hearty handshake. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to PCG personnel and members of the Filipino community who attended. END
