Asia's leading food trade show is back in Shanghai
SHANGHAI, CHINA - SIAL, Asia's leading agricultural and food trade show is back in Shanghai as it officially held its Opening Ceremonies on 19 May 2025 at the sprawling Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC) in this city's Pudong District. Shanghai PCG's Vice Consul Richard L. Recella and PTIC's Vice Consul (Commercial) Jose Ma. S. Dinsay were among the attendees to the by-invitation only affair composed of officials of the Shanghai Municipal Government, members of the Diplomatic and Consular corps, and major food traders and suppliers.
The 2025 edition of the SIAL attracted more than 5,000 exhibitors from over 75 countries including the Philippines. Serving as the centerpiece event for this year is the participation of Tutto Pizza from Napoli, Italy, globally known for its authentic and long-standing tradition of Neapolitan pizza making.
Nine food sectors were housed in all of SNIEC's vast exhibition halls namely: dairy sector; baby food village; food sector; organic and wellness village; meat, poultry and cured meat sector; seafood sector; pulses and grains sector; alcoholic beverage sector; and non-alcoholic beverage sector.
Four booths were present to showcase Philippine products, they are Oleo-Fats Incorporated, Asian Premier Resources Trading Corporation, Amley Food Corporation and Lianyungang Dawn Trading Co., Ltd. Their products range from specialty fats and oils to virgin coconut oil, dried mango and other fruits snacks. Lianyungang Dawn, on the other hand, is a distributor of Philippine food and beverages to the mainland which it sources from companies such as MY San, Nutri-Asia Inc, Century Pacific Food, Monde Nissin and San Miguel Brewery. Shanghai PCG hosts lecture by eminent expert on cardiac arrhythmia and health
SHANGHAI, 16 May 2025 – In pursuit of its GAD and Wellness objectives, the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai hosted a lecture by eminent Chinese cardiologists Dr. Jiang Weifeng on “Arrhythmias and Health” on 16 May 2025. Dr. Jiang is a doctor of the Department of Cardiology of the prestigious Jiao Tong University affiliated Shanghai Chest Hospital.
Dr. Jiang provided an overview of arrhythmias, their underlying physiology, types, causes, prevalence and treatment. Arrythmias pertain to irregular or erratic heartbeats which, if left untreated, could become life-threatening and have been linked to higher chances of stroke and heart failure among adults. Dr. Jiang warned that telltale symptoms of arrythmia should never be ignored and medical evaluation should be sought immediately. Prevention through healthy lifestyle changes involving diet and exercise is the best route to take.
Opening the event, Acting Head of Post Consul John Francis S. Herrera underscored the importance of paying attention to our bodies and getting regular medical check-ups so that medical conditions like arrhythmias can be detected early.
At the event’s conclusion, Consul Herrera thanked Dr. Jiang for sharing his expertise and knowledge about arrythmias and presented him a certificate of appreciation together with a hearty handshake. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to PCG personnel and members of the Filipino community who attended. END
CFO opens 2025 MAM Awards nominations honoring media excellence in migration advocacy
The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has officially opened nominations for the 2025 Migration Advocacy and Media (MAM) Awards, which honor media professionals and outlets for their role in raising awareness about migration issues and celebrating the stories of overseas Filipinos.
Established in 2011, the awards recognize works in print, radio, TV, film, advertising, and interactive media that highlight challenges like human trafficking, illegal recruitment, and migrant contributions.
Eligible entries must have been published or produced between January 2022 and June 2025, with submissions due by 31 July 2025. Winners will be announced in December 2025 during the Month of Overseas Filipinos (MOF) celebration.
