Philippine Investment Forum-Shanghai draws tech & innovation managers, movers and merchants
PHILIPPINE INVESTMENT FORUM-SHANGHAI DRAWS TECH & INNOVATION MANAGERS, MOVERS AND MERCHANTS
08 November 2021 – Close to 170 enterprises and organizations, many represented by C-suite executives, attended the very first and resoundingly successful Philippine Investment Forum (PIF 2021 held on 05 November at the Parkyard Hotel in Shanghai’s showcase New Pudong District.
Organized by the Philippine Consulate General with the local Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) and Philippine Department of Tourism Office, PIF 2021 was principally directed at the investment communities, locator enterprises and entrepreneurs of the Shanghai’s sprawling, 95-sqm. Zhangjiang Science City (ZSC).
Dating back to 1992 and touted as ‘China’s Silicon Valley’, ZSC is home to over 18,000 enterprises, 53 regional headquarters of multinational corporations, and 828 high-tech enterprises. With many of these companies actively seeking joint ventures, overseas start-ups for venture capital funding, as well as markets for their products and services. the Consulate General’s team saw ZSC as a fecund wellspring of investments and business in the Philippines.
Visiting from Beijing, Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana opened the Forum and welcomed attendees. Emphasizing the Philippines’ re-emergence from the pandemic, he cited the strong recovery of Philippine GDP and key industrial sectors, the Philippines high credit ratings, and the recent slew of legislated economic reforms and investment incentives.
Keynoting the Forum via recorded video, DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez urged Chinese companies to consider areas for collaboration, leverage the strengths of the Filipino workforce, and explore complementarities between the two countries. The Secretary pitched IT/BPM, electronics, automotive, aerospace, copper-nickel and hyperscalers, agri-business, infrastructure, manufacturing and real estate development as top industries with most potential for investors.
Addressing the event, Invest Shanghai Vice President Mme. He Weichen, naming the Philippines as Shanghai’s third-top partner for outbound capital investments among Belt-and-Road countries.
A video address by DTI Undersecretary Rafaelita M. Aldaba kicked off the technical presentations. She provided a comprehensive overview of “The Philippine Innovation Ecosystem and Tech Startups in the Philippines”, a major area of interest for ZSC-based firms.
PTIC-Beijing Commercial Counsellor Glenn G. Peñaranda spoke on the Philippines’ “New Energy Developments and Policies”, PTIC-Guangzhou Commercial Consul John Paul B. Iñigo outlined “Opportunities in Infrastructure and the Construction Sector”, Agricultural Counsellor Ana Gracia Maria . Abejuela highlighted “Investment Opportunities in Philippine Agriculture”, and PDOT-Shanghai Tourism Attaché Ireneo H. Reyes presented “Investment Opportunities in the Philippine Tourism Sector”.
Bank of China-Manila Chief Deng Jun and Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Enovate Motors Regional General Manager Dong Liang validated the Philippines’ many selling points with their respective testimonials on the Philippines’ investment and business landscape.
Wrapping up the Forum was Philippine Consul General in Shanghai Josel F. Ignacio, who offered a synopsis of the proceedings. He exhorted attendees to echo the information gathered from the Forum in their management board rooms, and translate interest into concrete overtures and ventures.
Also gracing the PIF were Zhangjiang Group Party Secretary and Chairman Yuan Tao, Vice Mayor Wang Wei of Yiwu City (Zhejiang Province), regarded as China’s e-commerce hub and the “World’s Largest Wholesale Market”.
Maximizing use of the Forum as a platform to promote Filipino culture as well, PIF attendees were treated during the break to Filipino musical numbers and a sumptuous repast of popular Filipino dishes and snacks especially arranged by Parkyard Hotel. Gifts and roundtrip travel packages to the Philippines were also raffled off to lucky participants.
The PIF closed with the awarding of plaques of appreciation from the Department of Trade and Industry and the Consulate General to Parkyard Hotel and its General Manager Mr. Tony Azarias, for their generous hosting of PIF 2021.
The PIF took place on the sidelines of the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world’s first and largest import-themed trade exhibition. END
Philippine Investment Forum-Shanghai: Grow and Prosper with Rising and Resurgent Philippines
Shanghai, 31 October 2021 – Discover and understand why smart and forward- thinking investors have grown in tandem with the Philippines’ sustained economic rise, at the PHILIPPINE INVESTMENT FORUM slated at 14:00 P.M.-17:30 P.M. on Friday, 05 November 2021, at the Parkyard Hotel Shanghai (699 Bibo Road, Zhangjiang Hi- Tech Park, Pudong New District, Shanghai).
The event is organized jointly by the Philippine Consulate General, Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC), Philippine Department of Tourism, with the support of Parkyard Hotel and in coordination with the Zhangjiang Group Co. Ltd., administrator of Zhangjiang Science City (ZSC), China’s answer to Silicon Valley.
Bringing together the C-Level executives and representatives of enterprises at the Zhangjiang Science City (ZSC) as well as those from Shanghai, the Yangtze River Delta Region and other parts of China, PIF 2021 will train the spotlight on the tremendous business opportunities and expansive investment options in the Philippines.
The Philippines has stood out over the past decade for its sustained, vibrant economic renaissance that has outpaced its peers and even long-standing Asian powerhouses. Two years since the outbreak of the pandemic, the Philippines emerges on the strength of a robust economic rebound, with greater resilience. Sound economic management; leaps in infrastructure development; a huge consumer base with rising incomes combine with an educated, skilled and youthful population to drive a thriving economy of infinite potential.
PIF 2021 will train the spotlight on promising investment sectors and areas for partnerships. For the high-tech companies in the ZSC, PIF promises to make clear viable and attractive pathways for rewarding investments via tech startups, venture capital funding, market complementation and other synergies.
Gracing and addressing the event shall be Philippine Ambassador to China H.E. Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana, Consul General in Shanghai Josel F. Ignacio, Zhangjiang Group Party Secretary and Chairman Yuan Tao, the Philippines’ crack team of Trade and Agriculture Attachés in China, and virtually from Manila, ranking officials of the Department of Trade and Industry led by the Honorable Secretary of Trade and Industry Ramon M. Lopez.

Consulate General pushes Clean Energy Cooperation at Lianyungang Belt and Road Seminar
Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, 21-22 October 2021 – Philippine Consulate General Economic Officer Consul Conrado B. Demdem, Jr. and Attaché Ronaldo B. Villanueva joined diplomats from Beijing and Shanghai at the Seminar on Green Projects for Belt & Road Cooperation held at the Hai Zhou Bayview Hotel in the coastal city of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province.
Organized by the National Development and Reform Commission’s Belt & Road Initiative Center, the two-day event showcased China’s advancement of a “Green Silk Road”. Governments partnering with China under the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) framework shared their experiences in promoting green and sustainable development.
Key speakers were NDRC Deputy Secretary General Mr. SU Wei, MFA International Economic Affairs Department Deputy DG Mr. GUO Xuejun, Jiangsu Province Development and Reform Commission Deputy DG Mr. WANG Xiandong, and Lianyungang Acting Mayor and CPC Lianyungang Municipal Committee Deputy Secretary Mr. MA Shiguang. Speakers from enterprises, academic institutions, and selected diplomatic missions in Beijing and Shanghai showcased notable BRI Green Projects.
On the sidelines of the event, Consul Demdem engaged NDRC’s Belt & Road Initiative Center Director General Mr. ZHAI Dongsheng and Lianyungang Development and Reform Commission Deputy Director Mme. LI Feifei on the Philippines’ own initiatives to attain clean and green development. Consul Demdem also welcomed an expression of interest from Zonergy Executive in supplying solar panels and components to the Philippines, which company executives saw as “a country with great potential in solar power.”
Capping the two-day event was a tour on 22 October of the Lianyungang Port, the Lianyungang PetroChem Industry Base Planning Exhibition Hall, and the Kanion Pharmaceutical (KP) Factory, China’s first “intelligent manufacturing factory” for traditional Chinese medicine.
A coastal city by the Yellow Sea, Lianyungang plays a central role in China’s national development plans. As a primary node city, it serves as an important transportation hub in China and a key international hub port in Eurasia. END
