Shanghai is currently experiencing heavy humidity and scattered thunderstorms as part of the plum rain season. The city has issued three weather alerts:

Today’s high of 32°C feels hotter due to high humidity. Similar conditions will persist on Friday, with more noticeable rain over the weekend. Early next week may bring brief afternoon showers.

Consulate General commemorates 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence
SHANGHAI – The Consulate General held a solemn flag ceremony in the morning of 12 June to mark the 127th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.Presiding over her first independence day celebration since arriving just two days prior, Consul General Myca Magnolia Fischer led the PCG’s officers and staff at the rites.
Consul John Francis S. Herrera read the Independence Day message of H.E. President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., while Vice Consul Richard L. Recella read that of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique A. Manalo. This was followed by the reading of the message of Tourism Secretary Christina G. Frasco and Secretary of Trade and Industry Cristina A. Roque by Tourism Attaché Francisco H. Lardizabal and Vice Consul (Commercial) Jose Ma. S. Dinsay, respectively.
Consul General Fischer delivered a stirring address, during which she shared her personal reflections on the occasion in the context of public service and the Consulate General’s mandates. She described the work in the foreign service in three words - Sacrificial, Sacred or set apart, and Self-beneficial.
The morning’s proceedings concluded with personnel of the PCG, Philippine Trade and Investment Center, Philippine Department of Tourism Office and Filipino Community representatives partaking of a celebratory traditional Filipino breakfast salo-salo (shared meal). END

Shanghai basketball match celebrates, manifests 50 years of Filipino-Chinese diplomatic friendship
SHANGHAI – Adding a sports diplomacy facet to the ongoing celebration of 50 years of Philippines-China diplomatic relations, a highly successful “Basketball Friendship Game” was held on June 08 2025 at the Shanghai Lihui Training Center in Minhang District.
Organized by the umbrella organization Filipino Community in Shanghai (FILCOMSHA) under its Chair Michelle Teope-Shen and officer Mr. Mark Ibañez, the event saw two mixed Filipino-Chinese teams – Red vs. Blue -- taking to the court to play a round of fun and exciting basketball.
PCG Vice Consul Richard L. Recella did the ceremonial jump ball. The match, a display of amity, sportsmanship and teamwork, concluded with the Red Team prevailing in a close game, 80-78. The Red Team included a PCG player, Attaché Mark Anthony Z. Geguera.
FILCOMSHA Chair Michelle Teope-Shen closed the event with a message of sincere appreciation and well-wishes for the future of Philippine-China ties.
