The Philippines is a country of year-long calendar offestivals. Popularly referred to by its Spanish term, “fiesta”, the Filipino people’s tradition of communal celebration goes back farther in the archipelago’s history. Today, in towns and communities across the country,people are brought together and bound by fiestasthat either recall key moments in local history, honor religious beliefs, celebrate the bounty of the land and sea, or that proclaim defining aspects of a community’s lifestyle or identity. 

Welcome to FIESTA FILIPINAS – a series of online events that affords a glimpse into Filipino festival culture, and a way of experiencing its vibrant colors and happy energyamidst the new normal.

Season 2 kicks off with our celebration of the famous Pahiyas Festival – pride of the municipality of Lucban, Quezon Province in Luzon Island. The PahiyasFestival represents the townspeople’s uniquely colorful expression of gratitude a bountiful “ani”– harvest, which has homes decked in the very fruits of the land and the year’s labors.
