Filipino restaurant opens doors in Shanghai
SHANGHAI – A new avenue for Philippine cuisine opened in Shanghai with the launch of a new Filipino restaurant in China’s financial capital.
“Bela Fiesta” was formally inaugurated on 10 March 2024 in ceremonies graced by officials of the Consulate General led by Consul Francis S. Herrera. Also present were members of the Filipino community.
Attesting to the strong interest and appetite for Filipino cuisine, a long queue of locals and expats alike trooped to the newly-opened restaurant. Bela Fiesta’s menu includes popular Filipino fare such as Tapsilog and variations thereof, Crispy Pata, Sinigang, Chicharon Bulaklak and Sisig.
Bela Fiesta is owned by Mr. Zai Zong Liang, a Chinese entrepreneur from Shandong Province and fan of Philippine cuisine. Boosting the restaurant’s pinoy credentials and authenticity, Bela Fiesta’s array of dishes is prepared by a Filipino Chef, with ingredients being heavily sourced from the Philippines. END

Shanghai PCG Attended The 5th “We Art Friends” Cultural Salon”
SHANGHAI – Vice Consul Richard L. Recella and Cultural Attaché Jeannie F. Petrola attended the 5th “We Art Friends” Cultural Salon with the theme “Chinese New Year Traditions” on 6 February 2024 organized by the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association (SPDA) at Shanghai Yuyuan Tourist Mart on 6 February 2024.
The Cultural Salon is an annual event that showcases Chinese culture and introduces it to the members of the diplomatic community, foreign expatriates, and international students.
Now on its 5th year, the event featured Shadow Cutting - also known as Silhouette Cutting - a craft-work made by using scissors and paper alone. In this craft-work, the artist cuts out the subject’s portrait in profile within a few minutes resulting in a most charming, detailed and highly accurate likeness. Also featured was Xiaolongbao making - a type of small Chinese steamed bun traditionally prepared in a Xiaolong, a small bamboo steaming basket. Further, the event featured a performance of Peking-style opera as well as the traditional Chinese drum-roll.
The Cultural Salon was hosted by Mr. Zhou Hanmin, SPDA President and Vice Chairman, Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). END
