Consul General Ignacio swears in new officers of Pinoy Teachers’ Association in Shanghai
Shanghai, 25 September 2021 – Consul General Josel F. Ignacio presided today over the swearing-in of the new set of officers of the Pinoy Teachers Association in Shanghai (PITÁS), coinciding with the organization’s second founding anniversary.
Also taking their oaths via remote connection were the new set of officers of the Pinoy Teachers Association in Hubei (PITAH), a PITÁS spin-off organization of Filipino educators in Wuhan city and the larger province of Hubei.
PITÁS was founded on 22 September 2019, with the avowed mission to help Filipino teachers in Shanghai by “supporting and encouraging successful teaching”. The organization seeks to “drive a new era of development growth and productivity for Filipino Teachers in Shanghai”.
Consul General Ignacio commended outgoing officers led by Chair Mr. Domir Borres and Founder and Adviser Mr. Richard Anota for PITÁS many activities and achievements. Extending best wishes to the new leadership under new Chair Ms. Jill Hilasque, he commended organization for helping raise the profile and good reputation of Filipinos in Shanghai and for their unwavering support for the Consulate General and its own initiatives.

NCCA launches RIZAL@160 TULARAWAN Digital Art Contest 2021 for Overseas Filipino Youth
In celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 160th Birth Anniversary this year, the NCCA launched the project RIZAL@160 TULARAWAN Digital Art Contest 2021 for Overseas Filipino Youth.
The contest is open to Overseas Filipinos ages 18 to 35, and aims to encourage contest participants to immerse in Dr. Jose Rizal’s poetry and allow them to transform his literature to original creative digital artworks.

Metrobank Shanghai Office Executives call on Consulate General, discuss future activities
Shanghai, 14 September 2021 – Executives of Metrobank China’s Representative Office in Shanghai paid an introductory call on Consul General Josel F. Ignacio today.
Accompanied by Economic Officer Consul Conrado B. Demdem, Jr., the Consul General welcomed Deputy General Manager and First Vice President Wendy WU, Corporate Banking Department Deputy Head Terry YANG, and Remittance Officer Annie YAP at the Consulate General.
Consul General Ignacio lauded Metrobank’s role as one of the Philippine pioneer companies to establish operations in Shanghai in the 1990s, in the early days of China’s opening up and reform. “Metrobank helped lay a crucial foundation for the cultivation of the Philippines’ engagement with Shanghai and our economic diplomacy here”, said the Consul General. “We continue to reap the fruits of goodwill with China that Metrobank and its peer Philippine companies have sown”.
The Consulate General has a close relationship with Metrobank-Shanghai, as the towering Metrobank Plaza in Changning District has been the home and “physical face” of the mission since 2010.
Metrobank provided an overview of its operations and its services in China. Both sides then discussed future cooperative engagements, Apart from synergies in the economic area and networking, the Consulate and Metrobank also discussed the revival of their jointly organized financial literacy seminar for the Filipino Community in Shanghai.
Metrobank China established its Head Office in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province in April 2010, becoming the first foreign bank to do so in the province. Its Representative Office in Shanghai’s Changning District was established much earlier in 1992, with a Marketing branch in Pudong. Metrobank China has five Filipino employees---three in Nanjing and two in Shanghai, including Remittance Officer Ms. YAP. END
