CG Ignacio, Anhui Provincial Officials touch base on boosting engagement in 2023
Shanghai, 17 March - Consul General Josel F. Ignacio and Deputy Director General Ms. Xiaolin Yang (photo, left) of the Foreign Affairs Office of Anhui Province agreed to push for intensified engagement between the Consulate General and provincial authorities and enterprises in the current year. The discussions took place on the sidelines of a diplomatic event in Shanghai on 13 March.
With COVID-19 strictures lifted across China, CG Ignacio committed to undertake an official visit soon to the provincial capital of Hefei to call on key officials. The Consul General also seeks to lead the Philippine country team in Shanghai – the Consulate General, Philippine Trade and Investment Center and Philippine Department of Tourism -- on a roadshow to promote the Philippines and engage Anhui enterprises.
The Consulate General sees great potential in Anhui. In September 2022, the PCG and PTIC undertook a visit to Wuhu City to pitch Philippine food products. Also that month, officials of Huai’an City invited PCG to its International Food Expo.
Anhui notched the 10th highest provincial GDP in China in 2022 at RMB 4.5 trillion. Parts of Anhui, Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang collectively form part of the dynamic Yangtze River Delta (YRD) Region, one of China’s first industrialized regions and a major economic engine of the country. The YRD account for about 40% of all Philippine exports to China. END
