SHANGHAI, 13 April 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai commenced the thirty-day overseas voting period for Filipinos based in Shanghai, and the provinces of Anhui, Hubei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang on 13 April 2025. According to Comelec’s data, 1,658 registered voters are eligible to vote in this election in Shanghai PCG’s jurisdiction.
This 2025 mid-term elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) introduced the use of Automated Counting Machines – Direct Recording Electronic (ACM-DRE) wherein voters are to use the touchscreen technology of the ACM to cast their votes. Among all Foreign Service Posts in Mainland China, Shanghai PCG is the only one to not use a physical nor postal ballot this election.
Ms. Michelle Teope-Chen, President of the Filipino Community in Shanghai (FilComSha) arrived early at the voting precinct and became the Consulate’s first ever voter in six years after voting in 2022 were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Election precincts at the Consulate will remain open daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Voting period will end on 12 May 2025 at 7:00 pm (PH time), the same time when all voting precincts all over the world will simultaneously close and will start the transmission of results to the Comelec headquarters in Manila.
